What is Curry Fusion? From the name, you'd probably guess it has something to do with Indian food. But before I can answer that question, I should tell you a little bit about myself. My hometown is a small Midwestern city, and I was born to immigrant Indian parents as a first-generation American. The cultural mix of Middle America and the East exposed me to different foods, music, movies, and ways of living from the typical Midwesterner. Food and culture has always been an important part of my life, not just because I grew up in an immigrant family, but also because of the Indian culture, and food playing a major role in family gatherings and also daily life. Food isn't just something you eat for nourishment, food is a way for people to interact, and to let people know you appreciate their friendship and to express hospitality. When my mother had guests at our house, she wouldn't let them leave until they at least ate something. My mother's interest in cooking and food has helped shape my interest in cooking and food as well. My mother cooked a lot of Indian food, but she also cooked many non-Indian dishes, such as Italian and Mexican cuisine. Through this, I learned how to mix different influences, and create not just Indian or another type of cuisine, but rather a fusion of cuisines and dishes, and often using the different ingredients to create unique and delicious dishes. The resulting melting pot of flavors is where Curry Fusion comes from.
